A base model knows language. Fine-tuning and post-training are what turn it into something that follows your instructions, matches your tone, and does the specific job you need — SFT, LoRA/QLoRA, RLHF, DPO, and the data and eval decisions that actually move quality. Most tutorials stop at a toy LoRA script; production fine-tuning means dataset curation, catastrophic forgetting, eval harnesses, and knowing when RLHF/DPO actually beats more data. Stop copying training scripts. Start shipping models that are actually better than the base.
